We’ve made the decision to change the format of Thursdayfizz. This is due to the amount of time we have to dedicate to putting each event on. We are constantly having to find sponsors or hook up with other organisations as well as charging to cover the cost of our nights. Trying to do this alongside running our own companies has proved quite challenging.

Future Events…
Jun 13
However we are both really keen to keep the evening going as we’ve seen first hand the huge benefit with people gaining work and new jobs from meeting people at Thursdayfizz. The way forward for the Thursdayfizz will be naming a bar, time and date, still once every 2 months where people can gather for drinks. It will be even more informal. We will still no doubt try and do the odd big bash and team up with others.Again thanks for everyone that’s supported Thursdayfizz over the year half we’ve been going. We hope to see everyone at the next event. -
Thank You

The Hub presents…
May 20
…in collaboration with Thursday Fizz
June 10th: 10:30 – 12:00 The Hub presents Rachel Elnaugh @ The Baltic
Rachel will be giving an inspirational 1 – hour keynote speech to as many people as we can fit in the room. This will be followed by a half hour Q&A.Rachel Elnaugh began her working life as an office junior but at the age of 24 she set up Red Letter Days which went on to generate £100million in the 16 years that she ran it.
After the well-publicised crash of Red Letter Days in 2005, which followed the ill-advised expansion of the business three years earlier, Rachel stepped away from the media spotlight and has been working in the small business sector ever since, inspiring, motivating and empowering entrepreneurs to achieve personal success.
She was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2002. She was also short-listed for the Veuve Clicquot Businesswoman of the year in 2001 as well as the Growing Business Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2002.
You may also remember Rachel as one of the original “dragons” when Dragon’s Den started life in 2005.
If you would like to hear Rachel talk about the highs and lows of being an entrepreneur and an opportunity to meet her personally.

Event Alert: App North
Feb 23
Introducing App North..
It’s become apparent that the North East is home to a hive of active mobile app developers. That said, there’s no structure in place for conversation or collaboration, no way to brainstorm or share ideas.
Does the North East need another forum for professionals in digital media? Certainly – there needs to be a space to come together and address specific and unique needs and concerns. As for businesses in the region, where plenty of national and international brands are based, it’s far too easy to look elsewhere for developers.
Without creating something tangible, it’s impossible to gauge how much interest there is in mobile app development, or how useful such a community would be.
AppNorth is a starting point. Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Symbian, whatever – it may take a while to establish, but it has the potential to create a valuable ecosystem in the North East of England. Specifically:
- a support network for freelance developers
- a social network for all developers
- a community for sharing and collaboration
- a portal for potential clients to discover and engage professional services
- regular monthly meet-ups, informal and open to all
- adhoc events with guest speakers
To kick things off, the first meet-up will be Tuesday 16th March at a location TBC. Keep on eye on Appnorth.co.uk or follow AppNorth on Twitter for further details in the coming days.
